The Easter Guineas, which used to be run on Easter Monday has been put off to May 30, (Indian Arrival Day). The event is now called the Guineas.
However, there are two feature races - the Champagne Stakes over 1600 metres on the Turf for 3 Y.O & Over and the Chief Commander Classic Open to T&T Bred 3. Y.O & Over. Both events have attracted small fields - there are just eight runners in the Champagne Stakes at the second stage of nomination last week, and seven runners in the Chief Commander Classic over 1800 metres (Turf). Early favourites for the Champagne Stakes are Root of Jesse and Lord Solver (two turf specialists), while the other event is an open race.
