Burgesses in Arima are complaining about the condition in which WASA has left the roads in the Borough after repairing leaking mains there.
Although WASA has “fixed” a leaking main at the corner of Dindial Street and Malabar Main Road, water still continues to leak leaving a big pool of water in the roadway. Motorists driving along the road are forced to stop for vehicles travelling on the opposite side to pass because the road is sinking. Moreover, WASA has left a big mound of material which was used to fix the hole. Sand and gravel which were used to patch up the opening have started to sink in the hole, forcing motorists to drive around the hole. WASA also dug up two sections along Pro Queen Street near Rose Janniere Park. This area is also covered with leftover sand and gravel causing drivers to slow down to avoid a big drop in that section of the road. Also, residents of Phase Two Malabar say that since October last year WASA came and dug up a hole to “fix” a leaking main in the middle of Hatters Lane but water is still flowing. WASA has left a number of the roads where there were leaking mains in a terrible condition causing drivers to swerve from dropping into the openings which are covered with gravel in the Borough of Arima. No one seems to be inspecting the poor work being done by WASA contractors in “fixing” leaking mains and these contractors seem to be answerable to no one. With all the leaks around the country, WASA is still calling on consumers to conserve water in this harsh dry season.
